DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email validation system used to confirm that an email has been sent by an authorized individual or mail server. A digital signature is added to the header of the email by using a private key. When the email message is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to verify who exactly sent it and whether its content has been altered in any way. The chief function of DKIM is to prevent the widely spread scam and spam emails, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email message is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for instance, but the signature does not match, you will either not receive the email message at all, or you’ll receive it with a warning notice that most likely it’s not genuine. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email which fails to pass the signature examination. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also give you an added layer of security when you communicate with your business allies, for example, as they can see for themselves that all the e-mails that you send are genuine and haven’t been tampered with on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Web Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is enabled by default for all domains that are hosted in a web hosting account on our cloud hosting platform, so you will not need to do anything on your end to enable it. The sole requirement is that the particular domain should be hosted in a hosting account on our platform using our MX and NS resource records, so that the e-mail messages will go through our mail servers. The private key will be generated on the server and the TXT resource record, which includes the public key, will be published to the Domain Name System automatically, so you will not need to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this functionality. The DomainKeys Identified Mail email authentication system will allow you to send out credible e-mail messages, so if you’re sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for example, your emails will always reach their target destination, while unsolicited 3rd parties will not be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All mandatory DomainKeys Identified Mail records will be set up automatically by our cloud hosting platform when you add a domain name as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so if you choose to purchase a semi-dedicated package, you will not need to set up anything to be able to use the email authentication system. The domain should use our name servers so that its DNS records can be managed on our end and in case this condition is answered, a private cryptographic key will be created on our mail servers and a public key will be published to the DNS database by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you set up using the domain will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for third parties to spoof any address. Both you and your associates or clients can take advantage of this option, as it will guarantee a higher safety level for your online correspondence.
